Introduction & Background
The Coalition of Pastoralist Civil Society Organisations (COPACSO), with support from TrustAfrica, is implementing the project “Preserving Indigenous Agroecological Knowledge for Sustainable Pastoralism in Uganda.” This initiative strengthens pastoralist communities in Karamoja by documenting indigenous agroecological practices, building resilience, and amplifying local voices in policy spaces. To support this work, COPACSO seeks to recruit a dedicated Project Officer who will play a central role in community mobilization, training facilitation, and field documentation.
Purpose of the Role
The Project Officer will be responsible for implementing project activities at the field level. This includes mobilizing pastoralist communities, supporting training workshops, maintaining beneficiary records, and preparing timely field reports for monitoring and accountability. The role requires significant field presence, close collaboration with local knowledge holders, and coordination with the COPACSO Secretariat.
Key Functions
- Mobilize pastoralist communities and knowledge holders for project activities.
- Support the organization and facilitation of training workshops and documentation sessions.
- Maintain accurate records of project beneficiaries and participation.
- Prepare regular field reports, including activity updates and challenges encountered.
Expected Deliverables
- Community mobilization reports from field activities.
- Accurate training participation and beneficiary records.
- Quarterly field activity reports submitted to the Project Coordinator.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Agriculture, or related field.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in community mobilization, project implementation, or field coordination (NGO/CSO experience preferred).
- Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate beneficiary data.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills in English; knowledge of Karamoja local languages is an asset.
- Willingness to be field-based and travel frequently to remote project sites.
Supervision & Reporting
The Project Officer will report directly to the Project Coordinator and work in close collaboration with field facilitators, trainers, and community leaders.

Job Summary
The Coalition of Pastoralist Civil Society Organisations (COPACSO) seeks a qualified and experienced Digital Entrepreneurship Trainer to design and deliver a practical training program for pastoralist youth and community members in Karamoja. The trainer will build participants’ skills in digital marketing, online branding, social media promotion, and basic graphic design, focusing on leveraging EcoMart — a digital marketplace for climate-smart and agroecological products. The role includes post-training mentorship to support participants in applying their skills to promote and sell products online.
About COPACSO
The Coalition of Pastoralist Civil Society Organisations (COPACSO) was established in 2005 as a platform for organisations engaging in policy formulation and advocacy for pastoralist communities in Uganda’s cattle corridor. COPACSO enables members to share experiences and strengthen pastoral advocacy to improve the welfare of pastoralists. COPACSO is currently implementing the project “Preserving Indigenous Agroecological Knowledge for Sustainable Pastoralism in Uganda”, supported by TrustAfrica, which documents and amplifies indigenous agroecological knowledge and fosters resilience through digital enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver a comprehensive, practical training curriculum on digital entrepreneurship (digital marketing, social media promotion, online branding, basic graphic design).
- Facilitate interactive, hands-on training sessions tailored to pastoralist youth and entrepreneurs in Karamoja.
- Support participants to create sample digital content (e.g., social posts, product descriptions, simple graphics).
- Provide mentorship and guidance after training to help participants market their agroecological products via EcoMart and other platforms.
- Prepare and submit a comprehensive post-training report summarizing outcomes, participant feedback, and recommendations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, ICT, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
- Proven expertise in digital marketing, online branding, and social media promotion (TikTok, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
- Experience in basic graphic design and digital content creation.
- Demonstrated experience developing and facilitating training programs, preferably with rural or community-based groups in East Africa.
- Strong understanding of e-commerce and digital platforms for small-scale enterprises.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills; ability to engage diverse participants.
- Fluency in English. Knowledge of at least one local Karamoja language is an advantage.

Training period: 3 days of intensive, practical sessions.
Location: Pastoralist communities in Karamoja Region, Uganda.
Follow-up: Remote mentorship and guidance after training.

COPACSO, with support from TrustAfrica, is implementing the project “Preserving Indigenous Agroecological Knowledge for Sustainable Pastoralism in Uganda.” The project empowers communities by documenting and amplifying indigenous knowledge while building resilience through digital enterprise. A key component is training youth and community members in participatory media to capture and share their knowledge via video and grassroots communication strategies.
Purpose of the Consultancy
The consultancy seeks a qualified expert to design and deliver a comprehensive training program in participatory media skills—including storytelling, video recording, editing, and ethical documentation. The training will focus on women and youth in pastoralist communities, equipping them to document and share their indigenous agroecological knowledge, amplify their voices, and contribute to advocacy efforts.
Specific Objectives
- Train participants in participatory media techniques: storytelling, video recording, and editing.
- Guide documentation of indigenous agroecological practices such as rotational grazing, organic livestock rearing, and sustainable rangeland management.
- Provide templates and guidance on ethical documentation for accurate and respectful representation.
- Mentor participants in post-training video production for EcoTV and wider dissemination.
Expected Outcomes
- Participants effectively document and share indigenous agroecological practices.
- Production of engaging videos showcasing traditional practices and enterprises.
- Improved understanding and application of ethical documentation guidelines.
- Emergence of trained community video reporters contributing to EcoTV and advocacy materials.
