Introduction & Background

The Coalition of Pastoralist Civil Society Organisations (COPACSO), in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), is implementing the Adapted Tool for Agroecology Performance Evaluation (TAPE).This project assesses biodiversity and gender in pastoralist systems in Uganda, focusing on the cattle corridor and Karamoja to inform sustainable pastoralist development and resilient livelihoods.

Purpose of the Consultancy

The Biodiversity Expert will provide technical expertise in the analysis, interpretation, and contextualization of biodiversity data within Uganda’s pastoralist systems. [The expert ensures that biodiversity indicators are correctly aligned with local ecological realities and presented accurately in both Step O and Final Reports.

Specific Objectives

  • Review and contextualize biodiversity data from the TAPE survey to reflect local ecosystems.
  • Contribute to Step O and Final Reports, aligning findings with overall project objectives.
  • Integrate biodiversity evidence and ecological perspectives into a policy brief.
  • Present and defend biodiversity findings during validation workshops in Karamoja.
  • Ensure all biodiversity information is coherent, accurate, and aligned with FAO/COPACSO standards.

Expected Deliverables

  • Contextualized Biodiversity Analysis Report for the TAPE Step O Report.
  • Written contributions analyzing biodiversity policies for the project Policy Brief.
  • Standardized Final Step O and Final Reports incorporating stakeholder feedback.
  • PowerPoint and oral presentations of results for stakeholder validation.

Supervision & Duration

The Biodiversity Expert will work under the supervision of the Lead Consultant and in close coordination with the COPACSO Secretariat. The assignment runs until 31st June 2026.
