COPACSO Empowers Next Generation of Pastoralist Advocates through Digital Storytelling

Karamoja, Uganda | 28 October 2025—Under the project, “Preserving Indigenous Agroecological Knowledge for Sustainable Pastoralism in Uganda,” the Coalition of Pastoralist Civil Society Organisations (COPACSO) successfully delivered a high-impact, dual-track capacity-building training on Media Storytelling and Digital Marketing for pastoralist youth and women. This initiative strategically addresses the alarming erosion of vital indigenous agro ecological traditional practices, such as rotational grazing, herbal veterinary knowledge, and organic livestock management, by merging essential technological skills with the documentation and preservation of agro ecological indigenous wisdom. The overall objective, driven by COPACSO, is to foster both digital inclusion and economic resilience.

COPACSO’s design of the training was centered on maximizing the impact for the community’s next generation of leaders. The first track focused on Digital Entrepreneurship and Marketing. Eight key youth participants (five women and three men) received hands-on training using readily accessible smartphone tools to develop tangible enterprise skills. This practical approach led directly to the successful creation of viable, youth-led brand prototypes for agroecological products, significantly fostering immediate market readiness and local economic empowerment.

The second track, Media and Visual Storytelling, equipped the trainees with essential technical and ethical skills for documenting their indigenous agro ecological practices, and advocating for their rights. The core goal was to use compelling visual media to reinforce indigenous agro ecological pride and accelerate advocacy efforts.

A major concrete achievement resulting from this training was the laying of the foundation for EcoTV, a groundbreaking, youth-driven communication channel initiated by COPACSO to be the primary digital platform for promoting agroecological stories and pastoralist resilience globally. COPACSO is committed to sustaining this initiative. This decisive action guarantees that indigenous voices will be effectively amplified in the digital public sphere and linked to income generation opportunities.
